Iraq Going Better, Were You Aware?
Do you watch the evening news? I admit I haven’t for awhile. Now that I have started again, I have noticed that Iraqi violence, insurgency, troop fatalities are the lead stories.
Why is this?
Because the troop surge is having lasting effects in Iraq. So much so that many newspapers, usually critical of the war, began covering obvious improvements:
…civilian fatalities down 75 percent, Iraqi security-force casualties down 40 percent, and weekly attacks are down 2/3 since June [via Boston Globe]
I’ll admit, and liberals would be sure to point out too, not all of it is because of Bush’s troop surge. We actually need to give some credit to the Iraqi Civilians and leaders. Shi’ite and Sunni leaders were beginning to realize the obvious, Al Qaeda was not only directing their attacks on US Troops.
Republicans and the White House need to trumpet these statistics whenever given the opportunity to.
Prediction: Democrats will tell us that the decrease in causalities is not a success especially without a democratic government in place.
This would explain why the speaker of the house Rep. Nancy Pelosi wants to be sure you remember that the Bush Administration…
…failure to devise a strategy for victory in Iraq… as presented by retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez during the Democrats’ weekly radio address. [via WashPo]
She has to you know. How else will she be able to claim victory. She wants her revised funding bill, tied to a troop pull-out time line, to be responsible for the end of the Iraq war. Not because America Won. How does that justify her election and Democrats controlling power of the House.
Just like droughts, it might be dry in one area of the world, while it is raining too much somewhere else. The decrease in violence in Iraq could be contributing to the problems in Pakistan. Not a defeat, but rather a notice not to drop the ball.
